Sustainable Agriculture

Training on Sustainable Agriculture

We have conducted several trainings on cultivation to farmers belong to many villages in  Devipatnam , Rampachodaravam, and Gangavaram Mandals in East Godavari District of Andhra Pradesh.  In each training, 30 farmers have participated and learned about ZBNF [ Zero-based natural farming ], preparation of organic manures, pesticides like vermin compost, neem cake making basin weeding, etc.

The duration of each training is for one day. The resource persons are from Krishi Vigyan Kendra of Rampachodavaram and the farmers who follow traditional farming methods are the resource persons in this training. As a result of this training, farmers started adopting sustainable agricultural practices and stopped using chemical fertilizers and pesticides. As an impact of the farmers adopting sustainable agricultural practices the land fertility started increasing and agricultural production increased.

Agro-Forestry

We have been facilitating the tribals to develop agroforestry with cashew & mango plantation in 2000 acres in Devipatnam, Rampachodavaram and Gangavaram Mandals in East Godavari District of Andhra Pradesh since 1996 by providing inputs such as seedlings to develop the main plantation and for making bio-fence,  financially support for digging pits, thoroughly trained them to take up ZBNF[ Zero Based Natural Farming ], preparation of organic fertilizers & pesticides, etc. The tribals have developed the agroforestry in their wastelands. With all this support the 2000 farmers have developed the agroforestry, in 2000 acres at the rate of one acre per family for the last 24 years. Now the tribals are getting good returns from all these 2000 acres. Most of the tribal families have properly utilised the income from this agroforestry and further developed the same cashew and mango plantation on their own in their leftover wasteland patches and some have utilised this money to give proper education to their children.  This activity has made a very good impact on the lives of the tribals in this area.
